Thanksgiving, Christmas, family, and friends.

             Well, we have 4 days until Thanksgiving, 31 days until Christmas, and 37 days until the new year! Time is flying by. Right now though, I want to concentrate on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is the time for remembering all of the blessings we have in our life. What we are thankful for. I am thankful for a lot of things. I am thankful for my house, my jobs, my co-author convincing me to write books with her, my publisher taking a chance on an unknown, my church, my health, and many, many more things. The two most important things in my life though, besides my faith and music, are my family and friends. I have the best family in the world, both regular and in-laws.

People that know me know I am always calling people to meet me for dinner, or lunch. The ones that understand me know that, to me, these outings are all about the camaraderie. I could care less about the food; I just like the time spend with them. In that retrospect, people ask “Why don’t you just get together then and not meet to eat?” I have found that dinner/lunch is an easy excuse to get together in our busy lives. A visit at someone’s house can expand into hours, which is not a bad thing unless you are busy. A meeting at a restaurant is a controlled time. You can take as long as you want eating and socializing, or you can make it brief by eating faster. It is a good excuse for the initial meeting, and if you both find yourself with more time, then it can turn into an all day outing. An invitation to one’s house, to the mall, a park, a movie, or anything else.

 

 One of my favorite movie quotes comes from a movie I love, Tequila Sunrise. "Friendship is the only choice in life you can make that's yours! You can't choose your family! Goddamn it, I've had to face that! No man should be judged for whatever direction his dick goes! That's like blaming a compass for pointing north, for Chrissake! Friendship is all we have. We chose each other." 

 

I honestly believe that is true. You choose your friends. I have some of the best friends, some of whom I have known since 6th grade. I still try to make time to get together with them at least once every two weeks, if not every week. Also, I take the time to call them often. It takes work, but it is completely worth it.

 

With all this being said, I want everyone to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. I hope you spend every minute possible with loved ones; family and friends. After Thanksgiving, Christmas will be a few short weeks away. In that time, I am hoping to get a lot of work done, including some on the second book in the Love Lost and Found series.(Jean, don't pull out the whip just yet! ;) )
